Crackity Crack Crack

Hello all you crazy people. Have the holidays been treating you well??? I sure hope so because I’ve been having a love affair. Yes, you heard me. It’s true. My dehydrator and I go at it every night in the kitchen. We’ve been making everything we can get our hands on- apples, watermelon, mangoes, pineapple, jackfruit. My cat is next to go. Haha Just kidding. I know you guys would send PETA after me.

Even on Christmas day, I had my dehydrator in the basement. He was making carrot crackers for me. They were the best crackers I’ve ever had in my life. I say that about most of the foods I eat, but would I ever lie to you??? The basement smelled soo damn good, but my stepdad said it smelled like pee. His sense of smell is obviously going with age. Tisk tisk. Hehe.

I found this recipe on GoneRaw (aka my savior) and it’s just too good for words. I’ve been eating these crackers with hummus, sun-dried tomatoes, and olives. You must try them if you have a dehydrator near you!!!! If you don’t have one, go steal one from Bed, Bath, and Beyond… or even SEARS!!! Haha I had a customer tonight who was buying a dehydrator and I didn’t even know we sold them. I guess Sears isn’t as bad as I thought… Well, I wouldn’t go that far, but it’s on my good side for now.

Here's the Recipe:
Carrot Crackers
6 cloves garlic
4 tablespoon ground flax seed meal
1 cup almonds
salt and pepper to taste (I used about ½ tsp salt and a few pinches of pepper)
2 medium organic carrots
Directions: Ground almonds to make flour. Put in food processor with carrots, garlic, flax seed meal, salt and pepper. Mix well.
Make flat crackers and place on dehydrator sheets. dehydrate at 105 F for 10-12 hr. flip the crackers after 6 hr and continue dehydrating. I made about 12 medium-sized crackers.

Have you named your Mr. Dehydrator yet? You know, if you're going to have an affair with him, he should definitely have a name! :P

Paulina from Veggie Delight is considering getting a dehydrator but she's on the fence. Maybe you guys could share dehydrator affairs!

You dehydrated watermelon??? That sounds yummy :)

Those crackers look really good...I totally want a dehydrator, it makes such cool stuff. I had dinner at my friend's house last night and they had just dehydrated a pineapple, it was awesome :)

jo,
do you think i could make those crackers in the oven instead of using a dehydrator? say at 200 instead of the 115? just curious because i'm broke and don't have a dehydrator.

Darn, I forgot to steal back my mom's dehydrator. Next visit and it will be mine, oh yes, it will be mine.

I want a dehydrator! It's funny... my husband used to work at Sears and we thought it was a terrible place back then too. Glad someone else agrees with us, hehehe.

Those look tasty! I don't have a dehydrator, or even a food processor, but your mention of hummus made me realize that I have all the ingredients to make some in my blender! Woohoo!

I've been debating on getting a dehydrator... how i want my own homemade raw crackers like the ones you just made!

I'm either going to do a mirror cake, fudge cake, or some kind of raw cake. Maybe a will make a couple different kinds...so hard to choose! I have been wanted to try raw cake for a while - what kind would you recommend?

never have i ever heard of dehydrated watermelon! since it's approximately 99.9% water (just a guess), that should be awesomely interesting! excellent usage of your dehydrator, jo.

I love my food dehydrator but never pull it out as much as I should. You're reminding me that I really should use it more. I love the idea of dehydrated watermelon. So far my favorite is dehydrated bananas. I saw them called for in one of Hannah's recipes and had to make them. They are quite delicious. I love to throw them in homemade granola. Mmmmm.

I have the same shaped dehydrator! Only mine is neglected. It's above the kitchen cupboards and my bf commented the other day that we'd only used it once, I corrected him because I actually used it twice!

You've reminded me I should start using it again, thanks!

I gotta try those crackers! I was about to get rid of our Ronco dehydrator a few months ago but kept it so I could make tofu jerky from HIAV.

That's it... I've been going back and forth on whether or not I'd actually use a dehydrator and whether or not I should put it on my registry... but IWANTONE!! and a soymilk maker... and a food processor... and... damn... am I a better person if all my consumption purchases are so I can make my own stuff later or am I just a hypocrite???

me want crackers and dried fruit!!!

Thanks for posting that recipe. I just brought home a Ronco dehydrator for my birthday, but all of the raw recipes for crackers were written for the fancy excalibur dehydrator. I just put my first batch of carrot crackers in, and i can't wait to try them. :)
